Community Conversation: Multisensory Space at the Library

November 14 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm

The library is a place for everyone, which is why we need you to help us make it welcoming and accessible to all!
The Skagway Public Library is grateful to have received a “Libraries Transforming Communities: Accessible Small and Rural Libraries” grant for 2024-2025, and our goal is to use the grant to create a multisensory space in the library’s Children’s Room.
What is a multisensory space? It is an area designed to engage, stimulate, or relax the user’s senses so that they can explore their environment and process information in new ways. By providing the user with specialized sensory equipment, a multisensory area can provide a safe space for anyone, and can be particularly beneficial for the needs of neurodivergent thinkers and those with anxiety.
As we begin to design our multisensory space and build our collection of sensory equipment, we encourage all community members, especially children who are excited to use this space and their parents, guardians, and caretakers, to please attend our “Community Conversation” and chat with us about what you would like from this space. There will be two conversations (one held on a weekend, one during the week, to cater to a variety of schedules), and we hope to see many community members at one or both of these drop-in events! Our goal is that this will be a community-informed space that will cater to Skagwegians and visitors alike.
